Concept: Salata, the Latin origin of the word salad, is the next generation salad bar, where diners create their own, tossed-to-order fresh and healthy salads and salad wraps in a warm and inviting setting with fast, friendly service. The initial idea for Salata came to Owner/Franchisor Berge Simonian in early 2003, when he noticed a major climb in sales in the salad-making section of the downtown Houston restaurant he had owned and operated since 1994. After extensive research and development, he and business partner Tony Kyoumjian developed Salata signature dressings, sauces and soups, and opened the first Salata location in October 2005. By late 2009 there will be nine locations, in Houston, Dallas and Plano, and Salata, with its solid foundation, is poised for additional growth.

Franchise Operations: The Salata Franchisee will be a part of a growing fast-casual, healthy concept that is simple and easy to operate. There is a well-developed operations system and a comprehensive training program in place. We offer site selection and sales forecasting services as well as an established marketing program. Once open, the franchisee will be offered on-going support by experienced food service professionals and benefit from a healthy ROI. Stores now in open include lunch-only operations as well as those serving lunch and dinner. Catering services provide additional income. Some evening service operations offer bring-your-own-wine options.

The Franchise: Currently, the estimated cost of a Salata Franchise is between $231,500 and $454,500 (varying by location). The potential franchisee must show a net worth in excess of $500,000, with $100,000 available in liquid assets for each proposed restaurant to be developed. The franchisee agreement term is 10 years, renewable for another 10. The ongoing royalty fee is 5% of total gross sales, less sales tax. A fee of 1% of total gross sales, less sales tax, is allocated to the Salata system advertising and promotional fund.

Locations: There are now six Houston-area locations with additional locations in Dallas and Plano. There are six company-owned restaurants and three franchise-owned.
